George Lape Foot 

1921- 2006

 

George Foot was born 1921 when his parents, Ben and Lydia Foot, lived on Mohawk Ave in Alplaus. As a child, he attended the Alplaus Grade School and eventually went on to graduate  from Scotia Junior, and Senior, High Schools.

After graduating from Purdue University in 1942, George enlisted in the US Air Force and became a C-47 pilot and attained the rank of First Lieutenant .

He was in the first wave of planes that arrived over France on the fateful “D” Day (the invasion of France ) at 2 am. He flew multiple missions that day. George was chosen to be one of the select pilots to fly supplies to the trapped garrison of troops at Bastone, Belgium, during the last critical battle of WWII, called "The Battle of the Bulge."

He was awarded the "Air Metal" with oak leaf clusters and was awarded  the “French Fourragere with Colors of the Croix de guerre” by the French Government, for which he was very proud.

George was preceded in death by his wife Nancy and is survived by his 2 sons, Joe and Jim Foot of Northern California. He is survived by his two brothers Ben and Charles Foot of Southern California.
