Jean West

Jean Dandareau West, born in 1925, entered into the larger life on April 11, 2008. She graduated from Burnt Hills Ballston Lake high School in 1942 and attended Iowa State College. She married Gilbert I. (Ike) West in 1950.

She was an administrative assistant for Carman School Rotterdam Central School System, a position from which she retired in 1968. She subsequently was employed as a Registration Secretary, Personnel and Guidance Association, for the State of New York from 1972 to 1979. She also worked intermittently for the Alplaus New York Post Office.

Formerly residing at 7 Second Street, Alplaus, New York, she and her husband moved to Florida in 1999, he predeceased her in 2006. She then lived with her daughter, Ann Kummer of Sun City Center, Florida, who cared for her during her final illness. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by a son, Royal West of Niskayuna, New York, two granddaughters, Kelly and Natalia and a grandson Christopher.

Among her activities of interest, she was a Charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary Schenectady Liederkranz and a Charter Member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Alplaus Fire Department.
